AI in Healthcare Insights from the Dutch Applied AI Award Finalists

On March 7, 2025, the Dutch Applied AI Award guest lecture at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (HvA) will showcase two AI applications that made it to the 2024 award finals: Sturgeon and AINAR.io. Sturgeon (Jeroen de Ridder, UMC Utrecht) enables real-time tumor classification during surgery, reducing diagnostic time from days to just 1.5 hours. AINAR.io (Elisabeth Huis in ’t Veld, Tilburg University) uses AI to detect and help manage needle phobia, improving patient experience and medical procedures.

Both speakers will share their insights on AI’s role in healthcare, the challenges of developing medical AI applications, and their journey through the Dutch Applied AI Award. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage in Q&A sessions.
